Our Charity

Over the years, our Council has raised funds for charitable causes and donated money and service to organizations with need. Below is a sample of these works since 2000.

Drive For Citizens With Developmental Disabilities... This annual Spring drive is one of the most widely know charitable activities of the Council. Brothers can be seen with collection containers in late April on streets throughout Millburn and at retail store entrances. Since 2000, we have collected and redistributed over $50,000.

Drive For Alzheimer's Care and Research… This State Council program began in 2001 and is an annual four day drive in October. During the years we are the State's leading Council and have raised over $40,000, including $6,500 in 2008.

Cloistered Dominican Nuns of Morristown… a little know activity supported by the St. Rose Council is the purchase of the milk and orange juice for the cloistered Dominican nuns in their Morristown home. Each year this program expense to the Council is in excess of $2,500.

Scholarships… Since the Council's inception, we've offered scholarships to men at the St. Andrew's Minor Seminary at Seton Hall University and to the children of members and non-members. The proceeds of our annual Golf Outing support this outreach with total scholarships exceeding $50,000 since the year 2000.

Donation To St. Rose of Lima Academy… In 2006 the Council first began supporting St. Rose of Lima Academy as a primary mission. Approximately $2,500 was donated for the Oy Ling Chen Science Laboratory. In 2008 the Council sponsored the Orchestra by the Sea Christmas Concert that raised $12,500 for the school. In 2009 the Council will also contribute $20,000 for tuition assistance to families.

Setzer Resource Center Book Library… In 2001-2002 we sponored the development of the parish's Catholic Books Library which is part of the Father Setzer Resource Center, now located in the basement of the Church. Hundreds of hours were spent reviewing books donated to the Council for this purpose, cataloging them and creating a computer database for the lending and searching functions.

St. Mary's Soup Kitchen Funding… In 1999 the Council began coordinating the activities of St. Rose's monthly participation in the soup kitchen at St. Mary's in Elizabeth. Brother Knights cooked the meal in the Ryan Hall kitchen, coordinated the volunteers who transported and served the meal the next day and raised the funds to support the whole effort. Through June, 2003 the Council raised well over $15,000 for this purpose. In July of that year the parish took over the financing for this outreach.

St. John's Soup Kitchen Donation… The Council has long had the tradition of "pinning" money on the Christmas tree at the annual Christmas Party and sending the collected money to St. John's soup kitchen in Newark. From 2000 through the current year, the Council has donated over $2,500.

Baptismal Roses… One of the oldest but little known traditions of the Council is support the parish's baptismal liturgy by purchasing the roses given to families of children being baptised.
