Over the years, our Council has raised funds for charitable causes and donated money and service to organizations with need. Below is a sample of these works.
Coats For Kids... This program sponsored by the Supreme Council and supported by St. Rose purchases quality coats for pre-teens older children. Coats cost about $20 each and come in cartons of 12. In 2013 we purchased 10 cartons and this year we placed an order for 20 cartons. The coats are distributed through Catholic Charities for the Newark Archdiocese.
Ultrasound Initiative... This program is also sponsored by Supreme and will match State and Local council funds raised for the purchase of an ultrasound machine for a Diocesan approved pregnancy care center. This year we raised enough money to purchase a $28,800 machine for the recently opened Plainfield office of the First Choice Women's Resource Centers. We hope to continue raising money sufficient to purchase a second machine.
Drive For Citizens With Developmental Disabilities... This annual Spring drive is one of the most widely know charitable activities of the KofC. Brothers can be seen with collection containers in late April on streets and at retail store entrances throughout Millburn/Short Hills . Since 2000, we have collected and redistributed over $100,000.
Drive For Alzheimer's Care and Research… This State Council program began in 2001 and is an annual four day drive in October. During the years we are the State's leading Council and have raised over $80,000, including over $10,000 in 2014.
Cloistered Dominican Nuns of Morristown… a little know activity supported by the St. Rose Council is the purchase of the milk and orange juice for the cloistered Dominican nuns in their Morristown home. Each year this program expense to the Council is in excess of $2,500.
Donation To St. Rose of Lima Academy… The Council is a big supporter of St. Rose of Lima Academy. $2,500 was donated for the Oy Ling Chen Science Laboratory and we have donated over $50,000 for general fund purposes and tuition assistance.
St. Mary's Soup Kitchen Funding… In 1999 the Council began coordinating the activities of St. Rose's monthly participation in the soup kitchen at St. Mary's in Elizabeth. Brother Knights cooked the meal in the Ryan Hall kitchen, coordinated the volunteers who transported and served the meal the next day and raised the funds to support the whole effort. Through June, 2003 the Council raised well over $15,000 for this purpose. In July of that year the parish took over the financing for this outreach.
St. John's Soup Kitchen Donation… The Council has long had the tradition of "pinning" money on the Christmas tree at the annual Christmas Party and sending the collected money to St. John's soup kitchen in Newark. From 2000 through the current year, the Council has donated over $2,500.
Baptismal Roses… One of the oldest but little known traditions of the Council is support of the parish's baptismal liturgy by purchasing the roses given to families of children being baptised.
